After earning an undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota in genetics, cell biology, and development, I went on to complete the requirements needed to obtain an advanced degree in genetics.Over the course of my academic career, I have completed various science and mathematics courses. I also possess several years of laboratory expertise that was very hands-on in nature.I enjoy teaching science, particularly biology, due to the fact that I believe the subject matter is awesome in its importance, and has lots of life applications that students can relate to, even if they don't realize this at first.In terms of my style of instructing, I like to tutor by clearly explaining the material step-by-step so that students are taught what they need to learn in a way that allows them to then apply go on to solve other problems. I believe that students need to understand problems, rather than merely memorize the answers, in order to facilitate real learning. I have also had the chance to spearhead lots of study groups.In my spare time, I coach volleyball at the high school level, travel, bake, and play all sorts of sports. I believe that this extracurricular activity helps me to be a well-rounded person, which ultimately makes me a better tutor.
